Thousands of Canadian Kids Set to Squeeze their Hearts out This Summer
-Sunkist Launches Largest Lemonade Stand Sale to Help Kids Give Back-
Toronto, ON–June 21– With temperatures rising and the sun starting to peek through the clouds, parents wrestle with thoughts on how to keep kids happy, entertained and active during their summer holidays. In time for those hot and hazy days, Sunkist Growers helps parents and kids cool off with a valuable experience in entrepreneurship and philanthropy. Sunkist’s Take a Stand® program will distribute thousands of lemonade stands to kids across the country who pledge to raise money for a charity, bringing to life a true Canadian family favourite.
This year, Sunkist Growers is distributing 20,000 free lemonade stands to kids across Canada and the United States who sign up to raise money for any charity of their choice. Since its inception, Take a Stand has raised an estimated $2.8 million for charity by kids in every province in Canada and every state in the U.S., one glass of fresh-squeezed Sunkist lemonade at a time. Take a Stand has empowered thousands of Canadian kids aged 7 to 12 years old, giving them an opportunity to learn to cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit and help them make a positive contribution to the community. Sunkist’s “Take a Stand” program squeezes some fun into summer by giving kids an outlet to get involved in a cause that is important to them.
A program like Take a Stand is beneficial for parents and kids alike. For parents, it’s a valuable learning tool to help introduce important life skills and enjoy team work. It’s also a great way for families to work together in achieving a common goal,” comments Sara Morgenstern, co-founder of SavvyMom.ca. “For kids, the old time favourite, the lemonade stand, is cool again. Take a Stand helps make kids heroes in their neighbourhood and it’s a fun way to spend a day or weekend during the summer holidays.”
To receive a complimentary stand, children must be 7-12 years of age and pledge their commitment to a charity online at: http://www.sunkist.com/takeastand. The stands are available for distribution on a first come, first serve basis while quantities last. Free lemonade stand tools, including: “Lemonade for Sale” poster, sales tracker, stand price sign and a worksheet on how to price their product can also be downloaded at any time from the Sunkist website.
“Take a Stand provides children with a voice and role in the community,” said Claire Smith, Director of Corporate Communications for Sunkist Growers. “It enables kids to take action on issues that are important to them, while building their leadership skills and nourishing community involvement so they become better citizens.”
